Staff AI/ML Engineer

Role overview

Join Burq as a Staff AI/ML Engineer to help build the company’s core AI technology. You’ll design and ship production AI systems, automate operational workflows, and build models that power decision-making—working closely with founders, product, and engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship production AI/ML systems, including:
  • Multi-agent orchestration, routing, and specialized agents
• Automate operational work across areas such as:
  • onboarding, support, exceptions, and document/data understanding
• Build decision models, including:
  • forecasting, prediction, matching/allocation, optimization, and reliability scoring
• Own evaluation and safe rollout practices, such as:
  • offline + online evaluation tied to business outcomes
  • shadow mode rollout and drift monitoring

Requirements

• Proven experience shipping production AI/ML systems (not only prototypes)
• Strong hands-on engineering skills, especially:
  • Python and modern API/services (e.g., FastAPI)
  • solid ML-systems and architecture instincts
• Ability to handle production tradeoffs (edge cases, quality, latency, cost, reliability)
• Evidence of end-to-end work with clear communication and fast decision-making

Areas of expertise (choose at least one)

• Generative / agentic AI: multi-agent orchestration, tool/function calling, RAG, structured outputs (e.g., LangGraph/LangChain, MCP) across providers (Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenAI)
• Applied ML / decision intelligence: forecasting, optimization, matching/allocation, ranking, or prediction models with measurable impact
• Operations research / optimization or RL/bandits for sequential decisions
• Multimodal / document understanding and/or computer-use/browser automation
• Real-time/streaming systems and production MLOps at scale (feature stores, reliability)

Nice to have

• Patents, peer-reviewed publications, or experience as an early/founding engineer
• Background in logistics, supply chain, transportation, marketplaces, mobility, or fulfillment
