About the role

Role Overview

Staff AI Engineer at Conveyor, reporting to the CTO and acting as one of the first AI engineers. You will shape Conveyor’s AI core capabilities and help build and optimize the AI development process for a critical pillar of the product strategy.

Responsibilities

Analyze AI quality and performance, and experiment with new AI technologies and ideas
Define and implement metrics and evaluation processes to improve AI quality
Own project priorities, timelines, and deliverables with minimal guidance
Scope and implement project-level solutions end-to-end
Collaborate closely (pairing frequently) with teammates across functions
Inform the product roadmap and implementation decisions based on feasibility
Ensure the product remains maintainable and evolvable, minimizing technical debt
Partner with Product and Design to plan features, avoid bottlenecks, and maximize implementation velocity

Requirements

8+ years experience in technical leadership roles, with recent focus on AI/ML
Strong software engineering foundations for shipping products
Demonstrated ability to build highly performant, maintainable, and evolvable systems
Recent experience in AI/ML, specifically LLMs
Experience evaluating approaches and technologies including:
- Prompt engineering
- Evals and observability
- RAG flows
- Search technologies
- Agent frameworks
Ability to do both research/analysis and production engineering

Nice-to-haves

Startup environment experience (strong preference)
Curiosity for continuous learning and a bias for action in a fast-moving AI/ML environment

The company has launched AI agents for security reviews and RFPs and is scaling its AI capabilities after a recent Series B.
