Sr. Solutions Architect

Role overview

Sr. Solutions Architect (Contract, Remote) Join Lumen Solutions Group Inc. to design and lead complex, execution-grade architectures for operational transportation/rail environments, bridging operational workflows (dispatch/scheduling/maintenance) with technical integration and data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own complex multi-system solutioning for connected transportation operations (rail/transit/airlines/transportation operations).
• Perform structured business process analysis: process mapping, As-Is/To-Be modeling, gap analysis, and workflow decomposition.
• Lead integration architecture design, including:
  • Event-driven patterns
  • REST and/or GraphQL APIs
  • Pub/sub and streaming (Kafka or equivalent)
  • Data exchange across OT/IT boundaries
• Design architectures for 24/7 operational availability on cloud and hybrid platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), considering reliability/latency/fault-tolerance needs for safety-adjacent rail settings.
• Architect operational data pipelines (real-time streaming ingestion, event processing, lakehouse patterns) for train performance, delay causality, and asset health data.
• Produce rigorous architecture artifacts engineering teams can execute against:
  • Solution design documents, integration maps
  • API contracts
  • Non-functional requirement matrices
  • Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
• Engage directly with operational stakeholders (dispatchers/controllers/planners/front-line supervisors) to ground decisions in real workflow context.
• Support RFP/RFQ technical inputs, vendor evaluations, and architecture governance; deliver independently as a contractor.

Requirements

• 10+ years progressive IT/technology experience with a foundation in hands-on engineering delivery (application development, systems integration, or data platform work) before moving into architecture; advisory-only experience is not competitive.
• 5+ years experience as a Solutions Architect or Enterprise Architect with ownership of complex, multi-system solutions in transportation operations (rail/transit/airlines).
• Proven skills in business process analysis (not systems architecture in isolation).
• Deep integration architecture experience with event-driven systems, REST/GraphQL APIs, and streaming/event technologies (Kafka or equivalent).
• Experience designing for 24/7 availability on AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Ability to lead and deliver engineering-ready architecture documentation and governance artifacts.
• Direct stakeholder engagement experience with operational teams.
• Independent consulting/contractor delivery experience (scope, proactive communication on blockers, artifact quality).

Nice to have

• Exposure to scheduling/dispatch/crew management/asset maintenance/train control functions as an ecosystem.
• Familiarity with safety-adjacent reliability/latency/fault-tolerance requirements.
• Experience with AI/ML-enabled operations (predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, scheduling optimization, computer vision).
• Lakehouse architecture experience (Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog).
• Predictive/ops data use cases such as delay causality and asset health.
