About the role

Role Overview

Sr. Software Engineer (Senior Backend Software Engineer) at Virtru. You’ll be a core contributor to Virtru’s Go-based backend and the open-source OpenTDF project, building foundational services for the data security platform.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain core backend platform services using Go
Contribute directly to the OpenTDF open-source project and help shape its future
Solve complex problems in data security, scalability, and distributed systems
Engineer and deploy solutions for enterprise and federal environments, including:
- on-premise
- air-gapped systems
- cloud-native deployments
- using Terraform and GitOps tooling
Collaborate on the architecture and implementation of multi-language SDKs (Go, Java, JavaScript) so they integrate with the backend
Mentor engineers via code reviews and pair programming

Requirements / What You’ll Bring

Strong backend engineering capability with emphasis on Go
Comfort working across challenging deployment environments (on-premise, air-gapped, cloud-native)
Interest in building robust, secure, scalable systems

Nice-to-Haves

Experience contributing to open-source (OpenTDF)
Familiarity with distributed systems and data security domains
Experience with infrastructure/deployment automation (Terraform, GitOps)
