Sr Software Engineer, PBM Adjudication

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer to join Rightway’s PBM Adjudication team. You’ll help build the next-generation pharmacy claims adjudication platform, including eligibility, pricing, coverage determination, and member cost-sharing across their book of business. This is an end-to-end ownership role where senior engineers set architecture and technical direction, unblock others, and drive delivery across workstreams.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive technical initiatives end-to-end for the adjudication platform.
• Design and build core components such as:
  • Eligibility engines
  • Pricing calculators
  • Network management
  • Claims processing pipelines
• Make architectural decisions and document:
  • Service boundaries
  • Data modeling
  • API contracts
• Tackle complex PBM domain problems and translate business rules into system design.
• Build and maintain production systems, including:
  • gRPC APIs using NestJS (TypeScript) or Go
  • Persistence with PostgreSQL
  • Internal tooling interfaces in React
• Implement normalized data models (e.g., 3NF) for complex entities.
• Define service communication patterns using Protocol Buffers and gRPC.
• Own observability:
  • Maintain Datadog monitors
  • Use Sentry for error tracking and proactively detect issues
• Drive quality with test-driven development.
• Mentor and elevate the team via pairing, code review, and design discussions.
• Establish and maintain coding standards and testing strategies.
• Contribute to cross-team architecture forums and coordinate when work impacts other services.
• Lead AI-native development practices (workflows, best practices, adoption support).

Requirements

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience with progression into technical leadership.
• Strong backend depth with experience designing/building services in TypeScript and/or Go for complex business logic (financial calculations/rules engines).
• Strong data modeling instincts (schema design, normalization trade-offs).

Nice-to-haves (implied)

• Comfortable working across both frontend (React/TypeScript) and backend languages.
• Experience with AI-assisted development workflows and leading adoption of AI tooling.
• Experience integrating compliance, risk identification, and production reliability into delivery planning.
