About the role
Role Overview
Senior iOS Software Engineer on the Fandango APEX Video Player team, shaping the video playback experience for millions of users by designing, building, and evolving an iOS Video Player SDK.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain a robust iOS Video Player SDK using Swift and Apple media frameworks.
- Lead and contribute to scalable cross-platform video playback architecture.
- Implement and optimize streaming features:
- HLS playback
- DRM (FairPlay)
- offline capabilities
- buffering and playback performance improvements
- Diagnose and resolve complex playback issues across the video delivery pipeline to improve reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with engineering, QA, and operations to deliver high-quality releases.
- Provide technical leadership via code reviews, mentorship, and documentation.
Requirements
- Strong iOS development experience with deep proficiency in Swift and Apple frameworks (notably AVFoundation, AVPlayer).
- Hands-on expertise with HLS streaming, FairPlay DRM, and video playback optimization.
- Solid understanding of streaming protocols and playback performance, including debugging buffering and bitrate adaptation.
- Experience building scalable, maintainable systems and contributing to shared SDKs/platform components.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with analytics, QoE metrics, and instrumentation.
- Experience with other platforms (Android, Roku, web).
- Experience with video ad integrations (VAST/VMAP).
