About the role

Sr. Software Engineer (Design Engineering)

Benepass is scaling its frontend and product experience and needs a Senior Design Engineer to help translate design and product ideas into high-quality, scalable UI systems.

Role Overview

Build and evolve Benepass’s design system and frontend foundations
Partner cross-functionally with Design, Product, and Engineering
Drive consistency, quality, and reuse through a component library
Contribute to developer experience and frontend engineering practices

Responsibilities

Build and Evolve the Design System

Develop reusable, accessible, scalable React + TypeScript components
Define and refine component APIs with usability and composability in mind
Ensure consistent styling, theming, and responsive behavior across the product

Deliver High-Quality Frontend Systems

Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
Apply best practices across React, TypeScript, styling, and accessibility
Improve performance, consistency, and code quality
Contribute to frontend architecture decisions with senior/lead engineers

Improve Developer Experience (DX)

Create documentation, examples, and tooling (e.g., Storybook, style guides)
Streamline workflows for building and using UI components
Identify and reduce friction in frontend development

Support Team Growth and Standards

Provide guidance via code reviews and collaboration
Uphold frontend standards and best practices across the team
Take ownership of projects and drive them to completion with minimal oversight

Requirements

Hands-on ability to build and evolve design systems / component libraries
Strong React and TypeScript skills, with accessibility and responsive UI consistency
Experience writing maintainable, well-tested frontend code
Ability to partner closely with Design and Product to turn ambiguous ideas into structured, reusable components

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with component library tooling such as Storybook
Experience improving developer experience and frontend workflows
Familiarity with AI-assisted workflows for UI development
