Role Overview

Sr. Software Engineer, Backend (Investment Products)

Acorns is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to be a technical pillar for teams building and scaling its core investment offerings. You’ll focus on technical integrity and architectural evolution, ensuring backend infrastructure is resilient as Acorns expands its financial wellness tools.

Responsibilities

Analyze and solve complex business and technical challenges using experience to deliver robust solutions.
Design backend architecture that scales reliably and remains sustainable over time.
Champion customers by approaching architecture with empathy and aligning improvements to customer outcomes.
Collaborate and set priorities with your manager and teammates on features, infrastructure improvements, and tools.
Mentor and guide junior engineers through shorter projects and help them grow their technical skills.
Bridge tech and business by explaining backend concepts across the company and aligning work with the mission.

Requirements

8–10 years of software engineering experience (or 5+ years with an advanced degree).
Expert backend system design and architectural best practices.
Strong judgment in selecting methods/techniques for non-routine engineering problems.

Preferred / Nice-to-Haves

Ruby on Rails (highly preferred, not mandatory).
PostgreSQL (highly recommended, not mandatory).
AWS environment experience (preferred).
TypeScript (a plus).
Experience in the financial/fintech industry.

Work Arrangement

Remote-first, with optional access to office space in Irvine, CA.
