Role: Sr. Scrum Master

Remote (US) — 6-month contract to hire

Overview

Join a ~15-person product pod (engineers, QA, UX designer, and data engineers) as one of three pod leaders alongside the Engineering Manager and Product Manager. This role blends structured upfront requirements/prioritization with agile execution, and it is not a textbook Scrum Master.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate ceremonies: daily stand-ups, sprint planning (~1 hour), sprint reviews, and retrospectives with prep work done in advance
• Pod leadership: align priorities, capacity, and risk; partner across the pod rather than operating in a silo
• Intake & prioritization visibility: maintain status and ensure work stays tied to approved goals using the pod’s Jira-based intake/prioritization system
• Stakeholder communication: provide clear status to the team and senior/executive leadership (different “altitudes” of detail)
• Release readiness: support daily releases in a monorepo environment; understand and coordinate feature-flagged work (e.g., LaunchDarkly) and what is safe to ship
• Metrics & reporting: build and maintain sprint metrics (capacity, velocity) using Jira data, JQL, and other tools; leverage AI-assisted reporting when needed
• Protect the team from uncontrolled work: ensure changes are evaluated and intentional
• Incidents & post-mortems: drive incident follow-ups to closure and support root cause analysis
• Estimation practices: guide estimating and story/epic sizing
• Regulated environment: operate within a SOC-compliant environment and support required controls

Requirements

• BA/BS or equivalent experience
• 5+ years project management experience and 4+ years leading sprints
• Comfortable acting as a Project Manager / Scrum Master hybrid (no SAFe-only environment)
• Strong Jira power-user skills, including JQL; Jira administration experience is a plus
• Experience with monorepo release processes and feature-flag-based deployments preferred (e.g., LaunchDarkly)
• Experience in regulated/compliance-driven environments preferred (SOC, SOX, or similar)
• Strong understanding of agile metrics (velocity, burndown, capacity) and comfort building reporting manually
• Strong understanding of SDLC and agile procedures
• Excellent communication across team and leadership levels
• Comfortable using AI tools to improve reporting and process efficiency
• Open to coaching on team-specific processes
