About the role
Role Overview
The Sr. React Engineer is a front-end specialist responsible for designing and building modern, responsive, accessible web experiences for mSupply’s applications. The role leads React/Next.js/TypeScript front-end architecture, sets UI engineering standards, and mentors other engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop front-end features using React, Next.js, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript tooling
- Architect and evolve Next.js applications using the App Router, server components, server actions, route handlers, middleware, and rendering strategies (ISR/SSR/SSG)
- Consume ASP.NET Web APIs and integrate with Azure-hosted services
- Build responsive, performant, and accessible UIs meeting WCAG 2.1 AA
- Collaborate with UX designers to convert wireframes/prototypes and design tokens into production components
- Define and enforce front-end coding standards, testing strategies, and performance budgets (Core Web Vitals, bundle size, caching)
- Implement and maintain client/server state management, routing, authentication (e.g., MSAL / Entra ID), and API integration patterns
- Lead code reviews, mentor engineers, and coach on modern React/Next.js best practices
- Partner with Solution Architects to align with system architecture and security standards
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for building, testing, and deploying to Azure (App Service, Static Web Apps, or containers)
- Investigate and resolve complex UI bugs, performance issues, and accessibility findings
- Stay current on the React/Next.js ecosystem and advocate for adoption when beneficial
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years professional front-end engineering, including 3+ years focused on React
- 2+ years hands-on production experience with Next.js (App Router preferred)
- Expert proficiency with React, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern JavaScript (ES2020+)
- Deep knowledge of React patterns (hooks, context, suspense, server components) and performance optimization
- Strong understanding of Next.js rendering strategies (SSR/SSG/ISR/RSC), caching, routing, data fetching, and middleware
- Hands-on experience with state/data-fetching tools (e.g., React Query (TanStack Query), Redux Toolkit, Zustand, SWR, etc.)
- Experience with shared component libraries and design systems (e.g., Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, MUI, etc.)
- Experience consuming RESTful ASP.NET/C# APIs deployed to Microsoft Azure
- Working knowledge of Azure authentication patterns (text truncates in posting)
