About the role
Role Overview
Alteryx is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to build reliable, polished web experiences. You’ll shape frontend architecture, deliver complex features end to end, and raise engineering standards across the team.
What You’ll Do
- Build & Evolve Core Apps: Develop high-quality React applications using TypeScript and Material UI (MUI).
- Drive UI Foundations: Build and maintain shared MUI components, themes, and frontend foundations for consistent, accessible experiences.
- Technical Leadership: Translate ambiguous product needs into technical plans, pragmatic milestones, and shipped outcomes.
- End-to-End Ownership: Own features across design, implementation, testing, release, and production support.
- Set Engineering Standards: Establish standards for accessibility, performance, reliability, maintainability, and frontend architecture.
- Proactive Problem Solving: Identify delivery risks, dependencies, and unclear requirements early; align partners on approach and sequencing.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product, design, and backend teams to build intuitive, scalable user experiences.
- Ship AI Experiences: Help define and ship trustworthy AI product experiences (usability, evaluation, safety, operational quality).
- Team Growth: Mentor engineers, onboard teammates, provide actionable feedback, and improve team practices.
What You Bring
- 4+ years building and operating production software with senior-level judgment and ownership.
- Deep mastery of React, TypeScript, modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Strong hands-on MUI expertise (theming, reusable components, accessibility, and design-system patterns).
- Experience building and maintaining component libraries used across multiple products/teams.
- Ability to write clean, well-tested, secure code with reusable, well-documented components and stable APIs.
- Strong debugging and performance troubleshooting across browsers, APIs, state management, and production.
- Comfort leading across team boundaries and explaining technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Curiosity and a drive to investigate root causes and improve how real users problems get solved.
Nice-to-Haves / Specialized Experience
- Hands-on experience integrating AI-enabled features (LLM integrations, agentic workflows, retrieval, tool calling, AI-assisted UX).
- Understanding of production quality concerns: evaluation/quality measurement, prompt management, latency, cost, privacy, security, observability, and fallback states.
- Ability to design trustworthy interfaces (streaming responses, citations, review/edit flows, error handling, human control).
- Deep knowledge of MUI tokens, component composition/overrides, responsive behavior, accessibility, and upgrade strategies.
- Testing tooling experience (mentioned but not detailed in the excerpt).
