About the role

Role overview

Lead the design and development of modern, high-performance web experiences. This front-end focused role partners with Product, UX, and backend/platform teams to deliver advanced UI capabilities and set engineering standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of complex, user-facing web applications using React + TypeScript, owning front-end architecture and delivery approach.
  • Partner with UX/Product to translate designs into polished, performant, accessible experiences; advise on feasibility and requirements.
  • Establish and evolve front-end standards for:
    • component architecture
    • state management
    • routing
    • code conventions
    • testing practices
  • Build with EXDS UI foundations, including design system/component libraries, theming, responsive layouts, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Drive performance and quality using Core Web Vitals, bundle optimization, rendering strategies, caching, and runtime observability.
  • Implement advanced UI capabilities such as rich data visualization, real-time updates, offline-friendly patterns, and robust form/workflow experiences.
  • Ensure secure client-side patterns (safe auth/token handling guidance, secure storage, mitigation for common web vulnerabilities).
  • Collaborate on API contracts (GraphQL/REST) and advocate for front-end friendly API patterns (pagination, filtering, error models).
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies/tools/frameworks; assess risks, cost, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Present architectural decisions to leadership/stakeholders.
  • Guide and mentor development teams; set coding standards and best practices.

Required qualifications

  • Strong software engineering experience with significant depth in front-end web development; experience leading projects and mentoring engineers.
  • Expert React proficiency (hooks, component composition, context, rendering behavior, concurrency-related patterns where applicable).
  • Strong TypeScript skills (types-as-design, generics, strictness strategies) and modern JavaScript fundamentals.
  • Deep modern front-end tooling experience: Vite/Webpack, Babel/SWC, package managers (npm/pnpm/yarn), optional monorepos, and build/release pipelines.
  • Advanced CSS skills (responsive design, CSS architecture such as CSS Modules/CSS-in-JS/utility frameworks, theming, consistent styling at scale).
  • Advanced testing practices: Jest/Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright/Cypress for E2E; ownership of test strategy.
  • Accessibility expertise: WCAG/ARIA, keyboard navigation, screen-reader considerations, automated + manual a11y testing.
  • Performance engineering: profiling, bundle splitting, SSR/CSR trade-offs, caching strategies, Core Web Vitals optimization.
  • API integration expertise with GraphQL and REST (schema-driven development, error handling, pagination, caching, client state strategies).
  • Web security awareness (XSS/CSRF prevention, dependency hygiene, secure auth/session patterns; OIDC awareness is a plus).
  • Front-end observability (client logging/metrics, error reporting, production debugging).
  • MUST use AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate implementation/refactoring/test creation/debugging while validating correctness and following secure handling practices.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with SSR/meta frameworks: Next.js / Remix and SEO considerations.
  • Experience leveraging a design system (e.g., Storybook, tokens).
  • Experience with micro-frontend patterns and module federation (when relevant).
