Sr. Finance Mgr, Partnerships and Special Projects

Role overview

As the Senior Manager, Partnerships and Special Projects (Business Finance), you’ll help define how Thumbtack grows through its partner network. This role builds the financial frameworks and decision support that power one of the company’s biggest growth levers, moving beyond reporting into business architecture, deal economics, and investment strategy.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve Thumbtack’s partnership financial framework (valuation, payback periods, scenario analysis, and revenue-share structures).
• Build reporting infrastructure and KPI dashboards to monitor partnership ROI, hold partners accountable to financial commitments, and identify corrective actions when performance is off track.
• Develop business cases for major partner investments, including:
  • pricing levers
  • supply acquisition
  • demand generation
  • operational capacity
• Support annual planning, quarterly business reviews, and resource allocation by linking partnership strategy and execution to financial goals.
• Create executive-ready narratives explaining marketplace performance, investment tradeoffs, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions.
• Partner with Analytics and Data Science to build dashboards and decision tools for partnership health and investment performance.
• Lead special projects (~25%) to develop scalable financial frameworks that maintain healthy supply-and-demand equilibrium and guide investment decisions.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A, marketplace strategy, business operations, corporate strategy, consulting, analytics, or related roles.
• Strong modeling skills, including:
  • driver-based and cohort models
  • unit economics (e.g., LTV/CAC, contribution margin)
  • ROI analysis, scenario planning, and long-range planning
• Deep understanding of marketplace dynamics (supply-demand balance, liquidity, matching, utilization, pricing/incentives, retention, monetization).
• Ability to translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for senior executives and cross-functional partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to influence stakeholders.

Preferred / nice-to-haves

• SQL and BI fluency, plus comfort with data visualization or AI/data tools (depending on analytics support model).
