About the role

Role overview

Senior UI Engineer within a product delivery team supporting American Eagle’s digital storefront. You’ll help modernize a large single-page application currently transitioning from legacy Ember.js to a modern Next.js ecosystem, delivering iterative features and experimentation tied to business initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop clean, modular, reusable UI code for AE.com’s enterprise single-page web application.
  • Write unit tests and take ownership of quality.
  • Build and run A/B experiments to validate feature enhancements.
  • Enhance and innovate core site functionality.
  • Modernize legacy Ember components through the Next.js transformation.
  • Leverage and experiment with AI tooling across the SDLC (e.g., Google Gemini, Qodo, Applitools, Atlassian Rovo).
  • Collaborate across teams and communicate clearly across stakeholders.
  • Analyze, prioritize, and present; drive process improvements to improve engineering efficiency.
  • Mentor engineers and guide stakeholders by translating business vision into technical delivery.
  • Identify UI technical improvements, plan/define/lead issues to execution.
  • Create, document, and communicate technical designs based on architectural guidance.
  • Assist/lead issue resolution with production support and communicate risks/mitigation plans.

Requirements

  • 5+ years relevant experience (Bachelor’s/Master’s in CS or related field preferred).
  • 3+ years experience in Agile development.
  • Strong UI experience using an MVC architectural pattern.
  • 2+ years experience with a single-page application framework (Next.js / React.js / Vue.js / Angular.js).
  • Experience consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Strong experience architecting CSS for large-scale responsive applications.

Nice to have

  • Strong Next.js experience and deep understanding of its ecosystem.
  • Experience building/scaling design systems using Storybook.
  • Experience with Playwright (or similar automation frameworks).
  • Experience with Optimizely or other enterprise experimentation platforms.
  • Familiarity with Handlebars and legacy web architectures.
  • Experience with Jira / Bitbucket.
  • E-commerce experience (high transactional volume).
  • Native app development (iOS/Android).
