About the role

Role Overview

Sr. Engineer – UI at American Eagle Outfitters in Pittsburgh, PA. You’ll join a major effort to modernize the company’s enterprise single-page application, migrating from legacy Ember.js to a modern, high-performance Next.js ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Develop clean, modular, and reusable UI code for AE.com’s enterprise single-page web application.
  • Write unit tests and take ownership of code quality.
  • Build and run A/B experiments to validate feature improvements.
  • Enhance and innovate core site functionality.
  • Modernize legacy Ember components as part of the Next.js transformation.
  • Experiment with AI tooling across the SDLC (e.g., Google Gemini, Qodo, Applitools, Atlassian Rovo) to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and other departments; communicate risks and mitigations.
  • Create, document, and communicate technical designs aligned with architectural recommendations.
  • Assist/lead issue resolution with production support.
  • Identify UI technical improvements, plan/define work, and help mentor engineers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science/Technology or related field.
  • 3+ years working in Agile development.
  • Extensive UI experience using an MVC architectural pattern.
  • 2+ years with a single-page application framework such as Next.js / React.js / Vue.js / Angular.js.
  • Extensive experience consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Experience architecting CSS for large-scale responsive applications.

Nice to Have

  • Strong Next.js experience and understanding of its ecosystem.
  • Experience building/scaling design systems with Storybook.
  • Hands-on with Playwright (or similar automation frameworks).
  • Experience with Optimizely (or other enterprise experimentation platforms).
  • Familiarity with Handlebars and legacy web architectures.
  • Experience with Jira / Bitbucket.
  • High transactional e-commerce experience.
  • Native app development experience (iOS/Android).
