About the role

Role Overview

Senior eCommerce Web Developer (Sr. Ecommerce Developer) responsible for leading and delivering Midwest Veterinary Supply’s digital commerce technology initiatives. This is a remote role with a requirement that candidates live within local driving distance of the Lakeville, Minnesota office for monthly team meetings.

Responsibilities

Backend Development & Systems Integration
- Design, develop, test, maintain, and support enterprise eCommerce solutions in HCL Commerce and related systems.
- Lead integrations across HCL Commerce, ERP, Evolve storefront, WordPress, middleware services, payment providers, and third-party applications.
- Build APIs, troubleshoot integration issues, optimize performance, and ensure reliability, scalability, and security.
Technical Architecture & Leadership
- Act as the senior technical lead for the eCommerce team.
- Define development standards, review architecture decisions, evaluate technologies, and recommend solutions aligned to business goals.
- Partner with stakeholders, IT leadership, and vendors to plan and execute technology initiatives.
Production Support & Troubleshooting
- Serve as the senior escalation point for complex issues.
- Diagnose performance issues, identify root causes, resolve failures, and implement long-term fixes.
- Monitor platform health and support business-critical systems.
Mentoring, Code Reviews & Team Development
- Mentor developers (full-stack and front-end), conduct code reviews, and promote best practices.
- Support hiring/onboarding and grow internal expertise as ownership transitions from external partners.
Front-End Development Support
- Support storefront enhancements and customer experience improvements.
- Assist with React-based application development and troubleshooting integrations with backend systems.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (CS/Software Engineering/IT/etc.) or equivalent experience.
7+ years professional software development, including 3+ years supporting enterprise eCommerce and production systems.
Proven ability to lead projects and mentor technical teams.
Strong background in enterprise Java, REST APIs, SQL and relational database design, and enterprise architecture (incl. ERP integrations, middleware, SOA).
Hands-on experience with HCL Commerce / IBM WebSphere Commerce, React, modern JavaScript frameworks, and WordPress development/integrations.
Proficient with Git, CI/CD, and release management practices.
