About the role
Sr. Director of Engineering (REMOTE)
Lead and scale a distributed, remote-first engineering organization supporting hospital pharmacy intelligence products.
Responsibilities
- Lead multiple product engineering teams building multi-tenant, enterprise SaaS for hospital customers (own people, process, and outcomes).
- Build and sustain a high-performing engineering culture:
- Develop engineering managers
- Drive accountability
- Create clear growth paths and career frameworks
- Partner with Product leadership to maintain technical health, manage delivery risk, and ensure predictable, high-quality shipping.
- Drive cross-team collaboration and reuse across engineering and internal platform teams.
- Mature engineering practices including:
- Planning
- ADRs (Architectural Decision Records)
- Documentation
- Quality
- Engineering metrics (delivery, developer experience, reliability)
- Own and manage cloud infrastructure costs at the team and product level.
- Lead/support post-acquisition integrations by setting standards, building trust, and accelerating time-to-cohesion.
- Participate in technical/architectural reviews and raise the bar across teams.
Requirements
- 12+ years building enterprise SaaS; 5+ years leading engineering organizations through growth.
- Proven experience leading distributed, remote-first engineering teams of 20+ through engineering managers.
- Track record of scaling engineering teams: hiring, manager development, career frameworks, and performance management with clarity and empathy.
- Experience integrating acquired teams and merging cultures without losing what made teams strong.
- Strong operational/diagnostic skills: understands engineering metrics and can resolve delivery issues without micromanaging.
- High-trust partnership skills with Product, Data, and DevOps peers; able to navigate tension constructively.
- Experience managing cloud costs at scale and comfort with AWS-first architectures.
- High EQ; leads through ambiguity and drives change; can say no clearly and respectfully.
