Role Overview

Senior Director, Technical Program Management at GitHub. Lead a team of Technical Program Managers within the Engineering organization, driving technical programs and initiatives that support GitHub’s most critical goals.

Responsibilities

Opportunity & Solutions

• Lead and coach cross-divisional teams to develop problem statements and hypotheses for products/services across boundaries.
• Identify dependencies across features and align programs with customer, market, internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and GitHub strategy.
• Drive process improvements and change management to scope insights faster and execute effectively.
• Ensure teams collaborate across Engineering, Marketing, and Design to satisfy customer requirements.
• Provide expertise to validate market size and prioritize opportunities of greatest value.
• Facilitate collaboration with partner teams to deliver solutions.

Program Planning & Success

• Help teams define program goals and prioritization for owned products/services.
• Translate organizational and partner needs into measurable program goals; prioritize deliverables using data insights.
• Lead active risk management using data (e.g., telemetry, usage, net satisfaction, customer satisfaction) and drive mitigations.
• Coach teams to define success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., OKRs, KPIs like quality and performance), and partner with engineering to ensure required telemetry exists.
• Guide teams to evaluate return on investment (ROI) for initiatives.

Program/Service Development

• Serve as a subject matter expert in orchestrating and integrating efforts for large cross-functional projects with internal teams and external partners.
• Coordinate across perspectives to align on product management and release tradeoffs, adjustments, and improvements.
• Partner with Engineering to contribute to, prioritize, and deliver roadmap commitments.
• Support teams in articulating feature value propositions and answering technical questions within owned areas.
• Guide justification of capacity requirements and advocate for appropriate resource allocation.
• Drive end-to-end scheduling: tracking, coordinating, communicating schedules, and holding stakeholders accountable to processes and timelines.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to lead and coach technical program teams delivering outcomes through complex, cross-functional technical programs.
• Strong technical and collaborative leadership skills.
• Experience using data (telemetry/usage/satisfaction metrics) for prioritization, risk management, and success measurement.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with OKRs/KPIs and building telemetry instrumentation needs with engineering.
• Experience working across multiple divisions and with external partners on large cross-functional projects.
