About the role
Role Overview
Sr. Data Engineer to help evolve Octave’s modern data stack and build the foundation for an emerging AI/ML platform. The role combines data engineering, platform architecture, and ML enablement to deliver reliable, scalable, and ethical AI in production.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data systems for ingestion, transformation, and storage, with a focus on testing and observability.
- Implement frameworks, tooling, and automation to safely increase development velocity.
- Build end-to-end AI/ML workflows:
- source ingestion & preparation
- training & tuning
- experimentation & productionization
- downstream integration (e.g., EHR modules, microservices, dashboards)
- Support iterative model development and production operations, including observability for accuracy, drift, bias, fairness, and reproducibility.
- Contribute to continuous improvement via knowledge-sharing and mentoring.
- Use AI tools as part of daily work to improve efficiency, quality, and decision-making.
Required Skills
- Strong SQL and Python with modern data engineering frameworks and infrastructure tooling.
- DataOps best practices: monitoring, pipeline automation, and CI/CD.
- Familiarity with modern ML/compute libraries/frameworks: Spark, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn.
- Ability to build production APIs and services, including MCP servers exposing internal data/services to LLMs.
- Collaborative, dependable mindset; comfort asking questions and iterating.
- Comfort using AI tools day-to-day and willingness to improve processes continuously.
Nice-to-haves / Preferred
- Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, EHR systems, or other regulated industries.
- Experience with AWS/GCP, dbt, Airflow, Airbyte, and Redshift/BigQuery.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or ML engineering.
