About the role
Role Overview
Octave is hiring a Sr. Data Engineer to evolve its modern data stack and help build the foundation of an emerging AI/ML platform. You’ll work at the intersection of data engineering, platform architecture, and machine learning enablement, partnering with data scientists, analysts, and product managers to deliver reliable pipelines, scalable analytics, and production-ready ML systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data ingestion, transformation, and storage systems with a focus on testing and observability.
- Create frameworks, tooling, and automation to safely increase development velocity.
- Develop end-to-end AI/ML workflows, including:
- source ingestion and data preparation
- training and tuning
- experimentation and productionization
- integration with downstream systems (e.g., EHR modules, microservices, dashboards)
- Support iterative model development and production operations with observability around accuracy, drift, bias, fairness, and reproducibility.
- Drive continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of peer engineers.
- Use AI tools in daily work to improve efficiency, quality, and decision-making.
Required Skills / Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Familiarity with modern data engineering frameworks, infrastructure, and tooling.
- DataOps best practices: monitoring, pipeline automation, and CI/CD.
- Knowledge of modern compute/ML frameworks/libraries: Spark, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn.
- Ability to build production APIs/services, including MCP servers exposing internal data/services to LLMs.
- Collaboration and dependability; strong learning mindset.
- Comfort using AI tools day-to-day and continuously improving how work gets done.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in CS, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or ML engineering.
Preferred
- Experience in healthcare / behavioral health, EHR systems, or regulated industries.
- Experience with AWS/GCP, dbt, Airflow, Airbyte, Redshift/BigQuery.
