About the role

Role Overview

ActioNet is seeking a Sr. Cloud Architect to join an interdisciplinary team delivering next-generation cloud-native data analytics and production systems. This is a remote role centered on designing and migrating legacy on-premises systems to AWS, with strong emphasis on cost-efficient, high-performing architectures and automated data production pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cloud readiness assessments and create migration plans prioritizing cost-efficiency, right-sizing, and resource optimization.
  • Design and architect secure, scalable, cost-effective AWS solutions using cloud-native technologies and optimization techniques (e.g., auto-scaling, reserved instances, storage tiering).
  • Architect and implement large-scale data processing ETL workloads on AWS with a focus on performance efficiency and cost control.
  • Provide SME guidance for big data storage installations, configurations, scalability, and cost optimization.
  • Lead database and capacity/storage planning for multi-terabyte enterprise systems, focusing on efficient resource utilization and cost management.
  • Support on-prem to AWS migrations with data integrity, minimal downtime, high availability, and optimized cloud spend.
  • Guide cloud application design, deployment, and optimization practices, including cost governance, tagging strategies, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Engage with customers to gather requirements, analyze application architectures, and deliver cost-conscious migration/modernization strategies.
  • Configure and implement CI/CD pipelines for automated build/test/deploy in AWS while minimizing operational costs.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize cloud environments for cost, performance, and scalability using AWS cost tools such as Cost Explorer and Budgets.
  • Stay current on emerging cloud and cost optimization trends to enhance offerings.
  • Lead and mentor team members on implementing cost-efficient cloud solutions and meeting architectural/financial governance standards.
  • Review security scans, accessibility audits, and performance testing to maintain compliance while using cost-effective remediation approaches.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 10+ years of cloud architecture experience, with strong focus on AWS and cost optimization.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing cost-efficient cloud-native applications.
  • Strong understanding of application migration strategies, including cost modeling and optimization approaches.
  • Excellent knowledge of AWS services including: S3, EMR, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, Redshift, SageMaker, QuickSight.
  • Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and serverless architectures with emphasis on efficient resource usage.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust security clearance (US Citizenship for eligibility).

Nice-to-have (implied)

  • Deep expertise in cloud financial management (FinOps) and governance practices.
  • Strong familiarity with AWS cost management tools (e.g., Budgets, Cost Explorer) and tagging/IaC best practices.
