SQL Data Engineer (Remote)

Responsibilities

Investigate, remediate, migrate, and validate production data across enterprise-scale systems.
Resolve data integrity issues in large production relational databases.
Write and execute complex SQL queries across highly relational data models.
Create validation scripts and reporting to identify impacted records and data anomalies.
Design, test, and run data correction/remediation scripts.
Lead/support data migration initiatives, including schema mapping and transformation logic.
Perform ETL, data mapping, and data quality validation.
Analyze and reconstruct missing/corrupted data when needed.
Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps, and Engineering to understand application data flows.
Optimize database performance and troubleshoot production issues.
Maintain migration runbooks/playbooks and technical documentation.
Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and deployment planning.

Bachelor’s degree in CS/IS/Engineering or equivalent experience.
5+ years of professional experience with relational databases.
Expert-level SQL Server skills.
Advanced SQL: complex JOINs, CTEs, window functions, query optimization, indexing strategies.
Experience writing safe bulk UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE scripts in production.
Proven experience with data migrations, schema mapping, transformation logic, and validation.
Experience with XML data and querying XML in SQL.
Strong ETL and data quality validation experience.
Experience with Git/GitHub and Jira.
Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
Ability to learn large, unfamiliar database schemas quickly.
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and attention to data accuracy.

Data reconstruction and forensic data investigation.
Experience in tax, government, financial services, or other regulated industries.
Familiarity with Azure SQL Managed Instance.
Exposure to VB.NET, ASP.NET, C#, Entity Framework, Dapper, ADO.NET.
Experience with SSRS.
Experience supporting SaaS/hosted application environments.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
