Software Test Engineer (SDET)

Location: 100% Remote (U.S.)
Employment: Full-time (Direct W2)

Role Overview

Bring strong software engineering practices to test automation. Design, build, and continuously improve automation frameworks, write production-quality test code, and partner with development teams to embed quality engineering throughout the SDLC.

Responsibilities

Develop and enhance test automation frameworks and production-quality test code
Collaborate with product, design, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into well-engineered solutions
Embed quality engineering across the SDLC with development teams
Raise the bar through code reviews, design reviews, and mentorship of more junior engineers
Cover multiple testing layers: unit, integration, end-to-end, performance, and security testing in modern distributed systems

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline
5+ years of experience as an SDET or in test-focused software engineering roles
Strong programming skills in Java, Python, JavaScript, or C#
Hands-on experience with at least one UI automation framework: Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright
Experience automating REST and/or gRPC APIs
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for test automation
Solid SQL skills and experience with database validation
Understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and modern web architectures
Excellent debugging, communication, and documentation skills
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Preferred Qualifications

Contract testing tools: Pact and/or Spring Cloud Contract
Performance testing: JMeter, Gatling, k6, or Locust
Security testing tools: OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, Snyk
Familiarity with chaos engineering and resilience testing
ISTQB (or equivalent QA) certification

Compensation

$105,000–$125,000 USD annually
