Software Test Engineer

Role Overview

Lead Test Engineer for a large-scale, cloud-native data and analytics platform in a secure IL4/5 AWS environment. You will own and evolve the test strategy, ensuring trust in data, pipelines, APIs, analytics services, and the infrastructure that powers mission decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve the test strategy for ingestion pipelines, APIs, analytics services, and infrastructure.
• Lead implementation of automated testing frameworks spanning:
  • infrastructure and deployments
  • data and ETL workflows
  • APIs and backend validation
  • user workflows
• Embed testing into CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) deployments.
• Collaborate with data engineers, cloud engineers, security teams, and product owners to improve quality, performance, and reliability.
• Establish testing standards and act as a quality advocate across the program.
• Mentor junior testers and help mature testing capabilities across the team.

Requirements

• Experience designing and executing comprehensive test strategies for complex software systems.
• Experience creating and maintaining automated test frameworks and reusable test libraries.
• Experience testing cloud-based architectures and distributed systems (including data platforms).
• Python testing frameworks, specifically PyTest.
• Experience with API testing and backend validation.
• Experience validating data pipelines, ETL processes, and data quality.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum/SAFe environments.
• Top Secret clearance (required).
• Education & experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years in software testing, or
  • 14+ years in software testing in lieu of a degree.
• IAT Level II certification such as CompTIA Security+.

Nice to Have

• AWS services for data/analytics: S3, Glue, Lambda, Athena, Step Functions.
• IaC testing experience with Terraform or Terragrunt.
• UI automation with Playwright (or similar).
• CI/CD validation with GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar.
• Testing security-constrained / IL-level cloud environments.
• Performance/load testing for data-intensive systems.
• Experience with data governance, metadata, or analytics platforms.
• Computing Environment Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner).
