About the role
Role Overview
Software Test Engineer I contributing to testing for a product platform and building domain expertise. The role focuses on quality advocacy, analytical troubleshooting, and aligning test work with customer experience and satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Act as a quality advocate in an agile software development environment.
- Collaborate with software engineers, designers, and product managers to analyze requirements, software design, and testability.
- Create test strategy, test plans, and test cases for user stories (with limited guidance).
- Prepare test data to validate logic, error handling, and system workflows.
- Isolate, reproduce, and track defects.
- Verify code changes/fixes and fulfill QA responsibilities on an agile scrum team.
- Identify opportunities for test automation, write and maintain automated tests for small stories.
- Design/debug/maintain automated test suites and update them as requirements/features change.
- Seek continuous growth by learning from more experienced engineers.
Requirements
- Experience with Agile software development life cycle.
- Knowledge of software quality assurance methodologies.
- Strong manual testing skills for web applications across browsers.
- Test automation mindset (automation prioritized first).
- Experience with automated GUI testing (e.g., Selenium / Playwright).
- Familiarity with automated acceptance testing and page object pattern design.
- Excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.
- Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience working with distributed/remote teams.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; solid CS fundamentals.
- Proficiency with macOS or Linux.
- Knowledge of Python or Go or Java.
- Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript/React.
- Database interaction knowledge (e.g., MongoDB and/or SQL).
- Some knowledge of CI/CD tools.
- Cloud familiarity (e.g., AWS/GCP/Azure) and testing in cloud-based SaaS.
- Experience with exploratory testing.
- Experience with Git/GitHub.
- Ability to test REST APIs.
Nice to Haves / Additional Context
- Exposure to tools and systems mentioned in the stack such as Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Jira, Confluence, Postman, locust, jMeter, ElasticSearch, SumoLogic, Tableau, SAML, REST, and others.
Education & Experience
- Master’s/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.
- Typically 1–3 years related experience.
Location / Work Setup
- Remote position (team works 100% remotely) with some travel for team meet-ups.
