Role overview

Mid-Level / Journeyman Software Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer at J-Mack Technologies. You’ll be a quality champion across teams—shaping test strategy, elevating standards, and mentoring QA teammates. Automation experience is valued but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and execution of comprehensive test strategies across workstreams and platforms
  • Author and own test plans, test cases, and test data strategies aligned to complex user workflows and system architecture
  • Drive defect identification, documentation, root cause analysis, and resolution tracking through closure
  • Serve as a QA thought leader in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, design reviews, code reviews)
  • Mentor and guide QA engineers; help foster a culture of quality
  • Evaluate and expand test automation frameworks and CI/CD-integrated testing pipelines (automation experience a plus)
  • Analyze user needs and target environments to ensure solutions align with current architecture and accessibility standards
  • Champion quality process improvements and introduce modern testing methodologies
  • Communicate quality status, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of professional software QA experience (enterprise or government systems)
  • Strong skills in test planning, test case design, defect lifecycle management, and release readiness
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum and cross-functional collaboration
  • Proficiency with QA management tools such as Jira and TestRail (or equivalent)
  • Working or hands-on knowledge of cloud-based environments and modern web application architecture

Nice-to-haves

  • Appian experience
  • QA mentoring and process standardization experience
  • Test automation knowledge (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright)
  • Process Playbook familiarity
  • Section 508/accessibility testing experience
  • Prior experience with federal or VA.gov digital services
  • Background investigation clearance (ability to obtain)

Education

  • BS in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or related technical discipline; alternatively, 8 additional years of experience can substitute for education.
