About the role

Role Overview

Software Engineering Manager (Player-Coach) at Flock Safety (full remote). Lead a software team building and maintaining internal tools, web services, and monitoring platforms for a live device network, while staying hands-on in the codebase.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor software engineers; support career growth and provide constructive feedback.
Drive technical strategy and roadmap planning for device monitoring, alerting, and internal health tools.
Design microservices architecture and manage dependencies.
Manage sprint execution and foster high-performing team dynamics.
Build full-stack features using TypeScript, Node.js, and React (dashboards, web services, robust APIs).
Collaborate cross-functionally to solve high-visibility, mission-critical scaling problems.

Requirements

Strong hands-on coding ability with TypeScript/Node.js for backend web services and React for modern frontend.
Solid SQL database experience.
Hands-on cloud experience with AWS services (including S3, API Gateway, SQS).
Experience with container orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.
Strategic approach to microservices design and planning under uncertainty.
Proven experience leading/managing/mentoring engineers focused on team growth.
Comfort using modern AI-assisted engineering tools to improve velocity and development output.
