Software Engineer

Role Overview

Backend Engineer at Virta Health. You’ll build and improve scalable backend systems, strengthen data accuracy across member/client/operational workflows, automate critical processes, and help identify opportunities to embed AI into development and operational workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and enhance scalable Go (Golang) microservices for eligibility, coverage, billing, and client-facing systems.
• Automate and streamline operational workflows to reduce manual data handling and improve data accuracy/availability.
• Design and deliver self-service tools so finance, operations, and client teams can manage processes/configurations with less engineering dependency.
• Ensure member/client/operational data is accurate, consistent, and traceable for internal decisions and external reporting.
• Collaborate with data and AI teams on applying AI to data validation, process automation, and anomaly detection.
• Contribute to client-facing APIs to enable seamless data exchange between Virta and customers.

Requirements

• 5–7 years shipping backend code in a high-quality production environment (data-centric systems exposure preferred).
• Experience building microservices in production.
• Experience with data and event-based architectures (e.g., API development, SQL/NoSQL datastores, messaging queues).
• Golang experience.
• Experience with a cloud platform such as Google Cloud, AWS, and/or Azure.
• Strong communication skills and experience partnering with business-level stakeholders (technical and non-technical).

Nice to Haves / Bonus

• Practical experience using AI tools to accelerate development workflows or improve data processes.
• Light frontend skills for occasional full-stack work.
• Experience in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated domains where data integrity is critical.
