About the role

Role Overview

Lightship is seeking a Software Engineer (UI/UX) specializing in Android UI/UX and systems interfacing. You’ll be the primary architect of the user experience for vehicle controls, transforming telemetry data from the Lightship RV into an intuitive mobile interface. You’ll also help develop and implement cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build engaging applications for Android and iOS
  • Work with backend developers to integrate APIs, third-party libraries, and cloud services (e.g., Firebase) for reliable data flow
  • Collaborate with a third-party development team on new features and releases
  • Develop, maintain, and extend cloud server applications and infrastructure
  • Participate in the full SDLC: requirements gathering → deployment, partnering with designers, product managers, and test engineers
  • Follow best practices and coding standards, perform code reviews, and maintain clear documentation

Requirements (Minimum)

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in CS/CE/EE, or 2+ years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in Kotlin for Android
  • Experience with Flutter for cross-platform development
  • Basic knowledge of UI design and reactive UI patterns
  • Basic knowledge of Protocol Buffers (ProtoBufs), MQTT, WebSockets, and restricted-bandwidth protocols
  • Experience with Embedded Linux and Linux system services
  • Experience with SQLite
  • Git proficiency and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong written and verbal technical communication

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with AWS IoT Core and AWS Lambda
  • Proficiency in C# and/or Python
  • Familiarity with Ethernet, WiFi, LTE, and Bluetooth
  • Experience with GTest (or equivalent)
  • Experience with Xcode and TestFlight
  • Experience working across software, hardware, test, and manufacturing teams
