Software Engineer (Typescript, Node.js)

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer responsible for driving product feature development and architectural decisions at Vestwell. You will act as an architect and technical lead—shaping the technology stack, enforcing best practices, and mentoring engineers while partnering with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-quality software supporting product initiatives using TypeScript
• Define and enforce coding and development best practices for maintainable, scalable systems
• Translate requirements into executable development plans and break down work for agile implementation
• Provide production support and mentor junior engineers to grow capability and knowledge sharing
• Lead architectural and design vision across multiple product verticals
• Manage delivery of high-impact initiatives to ensure timely, high-quality releases
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement efforts
• Support scaling and optimization of the technology infrastructure

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer
• Proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js
• Experience with Python
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude and Cursor
• Experience scaling and managing teams of 3+ engineers
• Advanced knowledge of Agile development practices
• Strong software architecture and design background
• Experience working with relational databases and data architecture
• Hands-on experience with AWS
• Ability to triage issues and assign work effectively
• Experience leading remote contractors / distributed teams

Nice to Have

• Advanced experience across multiple projects
• Proven mentoring skills for junior engineers
