Role Overview

Staff / Senior Distributed Systems Engineer to design and build a core distributed data syncing platform powering hundreds of enterprise customers. This is a backend systems engineering role focused on building systems from first principles—not operating infrastructure.

What You’ll Work On

• Design and build large-scale distributed backend systems
• Build and optimize high-throughput data synchronisation engines
• Develop real-time streaming capabilities using queues and event-driven architectures
• Scale platforms across multiple orders of magnitude of growth
• Implement low-latency infrastructure supporting millions of requests
• Improve reliability, fault tolerance, and performance across multi-region deployments
• Work with customers to solve complex scaling challenges

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years building backend software at scale
• Strong systems design fundamentals
• Experience building distributed systems (not just operating them)
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and exceptional coding ability
• Experience with: Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, SQL, and distributed messaging systems
• Track record of building systems 0 → 1 and scaling to production
• Graduated from a top CS program (top 30)
• Experience in high-growth engineering orgs or venture-backed startups
• Passion for solving difficult engineering problems and owning complex platforms

Nice-to-Haves / Strong Signals

• Experience helping products through rapid scaling
• Ownership of platforms processing significant volumes of data under real production load
