Software Engineer

Role Overview

Topgolf is seeking a Server Software Engineer to design and develop microservices and backend services that support Topgolf’s digital and venue systems. You’ll work with a small, cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and product managers to help build the next generation of digital and venue products.

Responsibilities

• Develop microservices and backend services that power digital and venue systems (25%)
• Design and write high-quality code, using AI-assisted development tools and practices to improve velocity and quality (30%)
• Design and implement database schemas (15%)
• Deploy, evaluate performance, optimize, and test microservices and backend software (5%)
• Collaborate with internal teams (client development, design, QA) (15%)
• Document software and features, including AI-generated specs and code artifacts (5%)
• Apply AI/ML techniques or tooling to improve backend systems, developer workflows, or product features (5%)

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (Required)
• 5+ years of experience in Java, Go, or other OOP/statically typed languages (Required)
• 1+ years of experience with database schema design and maintenance (Required)
• Experience with microservices architectures (preferred)
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, including performance optimization
• Strong ownership, motivation, and written/verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

• 3+ years in Scala or Go (Preferred)
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) in a modern SDLC (Preferred)
• Familiarity with Spec Driven Development or AI-augmented engineering workflows (Preferred)
