Software Engineer (Test Automation)

Role overview

Nava is hiring a Software Engineer (Test Automation) (multiple levels/titles). You’ll work on cross-functional teams building and modernizing large-scale systems for government partners, including end-to-end responsibilities from strategy and planning through post-production testing and support.

Responsibilities

• Design, review, and build well-crafted software alongside other Nava engineers
• Collaborate with government partners and contractors to architect, implement, and deploy improvements
• Work in an Agile environment to ship features that meet user needs
• Create and maintain test plans, test cases, and test results documentation
• Monitor and analyze test results; report defects and performance issues to development teams
• Ensure compliance with security best practices throughout testing activities
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support production and investigate issues
• Support hiring activities as needed (referrals, interviews, debriefs)

Required skills

• Minimum 8 years of testing experience
• At least 5 years coding in JavaScript
• Ability to develop a testing strategy, define testing processes, and advocate for test automation best practices
• Experience defining and executing test plans and test cases for complex enterprise applications
• Strong defect tracking/reporting/prioritization skills (e.g., Jira, GitHub Projects)
• Hands-on with automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, or similar frameworks
• Knowledge of performance testing tools
• Experience leading regression, UAT, and E2E testing
• Familiarity with security testing and data protection practices
• Strong problem-solving, reliability, and attention to detail
