About the role

Role Overview

Join Sophos as a Software Engineer on a high-performing engineering team. You will design, architect, and build systems that protect organizations from cyberattacks, owning project delivery end-to-end.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, ship, and maintain features end-to-end using TypeScript across React frontends and backend services
Own delivery of project work with moderate guidance: requirements → breakdown/design → implementation → testing → deployment → post-release improvements
Be an on-call first responder for services your team owns: triage, debug, resolve production issues, and implement durable fixes

Requirements

Solid CS fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, software design, debugging
Ownership mindset with curiosity and continuous learning
Experience designing/building backend services and REST or GraphQL APIs
Strong communication skills (written/verbal), comfortable mentoring more junior engineers
Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript and a modern frontend framework (React preferred)
3+ years shipping production systems
Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (basic schema design + query work)
Experience with automated testing (unit/integration/E2E) and providing high-signal code reviews
Ability to break down ambiguous problems, scope work, and reason through trade-offs
Track record of delivering on time to agreed quality

Nice-to-haves

Cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK)
Experience operating production services: on-call, observability, incident response
Familiarity with CI/CD and modern delivery practices
Exposure to event-driven/distributed/large-scale data systems
Interest or experience in cybersecurity
Experience using AI-assisted developer tools to improve productivity
