About the role
Role Overview
You will help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems by completing real-world software engineering tasks. The work spans backend, full-stack, systems, and infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on reading unfamiliar codebases and explaining engineering decisions clearly.
Responsibilities
- Work on challenging software engineering tasks across backend, full-stack, infrastructure, and systems projects
- Review, debug, improve, and explain code in different technical environments
- Design or evaluate solutions involving APIs, databases, services, integrations, testing, and deployment workflows
- Assess tradeoffs across scalability, maintainability, performance, reliability, security, and developer experience
- Communicate technical reasoning clearly in writing (why a solution works and what alternatives were considered)
- Collaborate with the customer team on technical reviews, implementation decisions, and problem-solving exercises
- Adapt quickly to new codebases, frameworks, and technical requirements
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
- Strong experience in at least one backend or full-stack environment, such as:
- Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C++, Go, or Rust
- Experience building/maintaining/reviewing production-level applications, including APIs/services, databases, and integrations
- Solid software engineering fundamentals: debugging, testing, code quality, architecture, and tradeoff analysis
- Ability to clearly and objectively explain complex engineering decisions
- Comfortable reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud experience: AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps workflows, containers, monitoring, or production operations
- Frontend framework experience: React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, or React Native
- Open-source contributions, strong public GitHub work, or technical writing
- Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, or making architecture decisions
