Software Engineer (Python/Platform Services)

Role overview

Aureon Consulting is seeking a mid-level Software Engineer (Python/Platform Services) to build and maintain core backend services powering a modern, data-driven platform. The role focuses on backend engineering, authentication & authorization, and geospatial data capabilities used across multiple applications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python
• Build and manage authentication and authorization solutions (e.g., identity integration)
• Define and implement core data models that support platform-wide functionality
• Work with geospatial data and mapping tools to enable location-based features
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features and enhancements
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across platform services
• Participate in system design discussions and help shape technical architecture decisions
• Work in an agile environment, owning tasks from development through deployment

Requirements

• Experience building backend systems in Python
• Understanding of authentication/authorization concepts (e.g., OAuth, RBAC)
• Experience integrating with identity platforms such as Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) or similar
• Exposure to geospatial tools/mapping technologies (e.g., Mapbox, ESRI)
• Strong understanding of API design, data modeling, and distributed systems
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team

Nice to have

• Experience with ReBAC (relationship-based access control) or advanced authorization models
• Background working with geospatial data systems/GIS platforms
• Familiarity with cloud architectures and scalable service design
