About the role

Role Overview

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain software solutions that enhance the Ubuntu ecosystem and other Canonical products. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to deliver new features, troubleshoot issues, and help improve Canonical’s open-source platforms.

Responsibilities

Design and implement new features for Ubuntu and related products
Optimize existing codebases for performance and security
Ensure integration with cloud and container platforms
Participate in code reviews
Contribute to open-source projects
Maintain comprehensive documentation
Collaborate with product managers, QA teams, and customers to deliver solutions
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
Proven software development experience, preferably in open-source
Strong proficiency in Python (also mentions C++ or Go)
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment
Passion for learning new technologies

Nice to Have

Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration
Experience with automation frameworks
