About the role

Role Overview

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain software solutions that enhance the Ubuntu ecosystem and other Canonical products. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to deliver new features, troubleshoot issues, and help improve Canonical’s open-source platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement new features for Ubuntu and related products
  • Optimize existing codebases for performance and security
  • Ensure integration with cloud and container platforms
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Contribute to open-source projects
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation
  • Collaborate with product managers, QA teams, and customers to deliver solutions
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Proven software development experience, preferably in open-source
  • Strong proficiency in Python (also mentions C++ or Go)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment
  • Passion for learning new technologies

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
  • Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration
  • Experience with automation frameworks
