About the role

Role Overview

Watts is seeking a Software Engineer, Mobile within its Digital Engineering team. You will build modern, scalable, high-performance mobile applications and bridge design and engineering to deliver intuitive, reliable, device-aware experiences across iOS and Android.

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, maintainable, reusable mobile code in TypeScript using React Native, and participate in code reviews.
  • Build responsive and accessible mobile UI for both portrait and landscape.
  • Integrate device-specific capabilities, including:
    • Bluetooth peripherals
    • Push notifications
    • Vibration/haptic feedback
    • Geolocation
    • Camera access
    • Sensors and orientation changes
  • Create and maintain reusable mobile components and shared UI patterns across apps/platforms.
  • Convert product requirements and design mockups into functional, mobile-first experiences.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers for end-to-end solutions.
  • Optimize performance, battery usage, responsiveness, and efficient handling of large data sets and background tasks.
  • Implement automated testing using tools such as Jest, React Native Testing Library, and Detox (or similar).
  • Manage mobile release workflows: build, sign, and submit apps to the Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • Evaluate emerging mobile technologies/libraries and recommend improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional front-end development, including 2+ years with React Native and TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with modern build tools such as Vite, Parcel, or Webpack.
  • Experience working in monorepos using Nx or Turborepo.
  • Proficiency with schema validation (e.g., Zod).
  • Experience building interactive data visualizations using D3, Plotly, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of state management patterns and front-end testing frameworks.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for browser performance and UI reliability.
  • Must comply with applicable regulations and pass background checks.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science (or related).
  • Experience contributing to design systems.

Travel

  • ~10% travel for training and meetings as needed.
