Role Overview
Software Engineer (L2) — Audiences & Journeys at Twilio. You’ll build and scale APIs for the Twilio Audiences & Journeys products (a customer data platform/CDP), enabling developers to create personalized customer experiences. The team works on data-intensive systems, including trillions of API calls annually, and focuses on developer velocity, system reliability, and long-term architecture.
Responsibilities
- Design and build robust, scalable backend systems and APIs for audience and journey creation, segmentation, and activation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, architecture, and other engineering teams to balance usability, performance, and long-term architecture.
- Communicate technical decisions clearly, including trade-offs, customer impact, and team alignment.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Troubleshoot and improve reliability by debugging issues and refining operational tooling and processes.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for managed services.
Requirements
- 2+ years experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language.
- Experience programming in Go, Java, or Python (or similar languages).
- Experience operating large-scale distributed systems on cloud infrastructure (AWS).
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes (including EKS/ECS).
- Experience with large-scale asynchronous processing systems.
