Software Engineer, Infrastructure

Role Overview

Join Chime’s Data Infra team within Infrastructure Engineering. You’ll build and operate the foundational data platform that Data Engineering relies on to run workflows reliably at scale—spanning the deployment layer (e.g., Airflow/Flink environments) and the storage layer (e.g., DynamoDB/RDS). This is a generalist infrastructure role with high leverage and a focus on durability and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain deployment infrastructure for Data Engineering workflows, including Airflow, Flink, and chalk.ai environments
• Own and operate core storage technologies: DynamoDB and RDS
• Write infrastructure-as-code with Terraform
• Manage workloads on Kubernetes in production
• Partner with Data Engineering to turn their needs into scalable, reliable infrastructure
• Drive reliability improvements via observability, capacity planning, and operational hygiene
• Participate in the full infrastructure lifecycle: design, build, test, and ship
• Help shape how the Data Infra team scales its practices as the company grows

Requirements

• 2–4 years of software engineering experience focused on infrastructure, platform, or backend systems
• Hands-on production experience with Terraform and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with AWS, especially managed database services like DynamoDB and RDS
• Strong programming skills in Python (or a similar language)
• Systems-thinking mindset focused on reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Ability to work autonomously on ambiguous problems and communicate clearly across teams

• Experience with data ingestion and ETL pipelines
