About the role
Role Overview
Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) / QA Lead (Founding QA hire)
- Full-time, remote (continental U.S. / lower 48 only)
- You will be the first dedicated tester on Fuse’s product engineering team and will build and lead the quality engineering practice.
- This is a deliberate SDET role: writing code to test the product (automation + CI), not manual QA.
What You’ll Do
- Define and own the testing strategy across the platform, in partnership with the dev lead, engineering manager, and architect.
- Design and build automated test suites (end-to-end and system/integration) using AI and custom code.
- Establish quality gates for what “done and tested” means and help the team enforce them.
- Build and maintain test data management and environments to support realistic clinical workflows while protecting PHI and staying within HIPAA-aligned controls.
- Lead performance, load, and reliability testing for workflows where uptime and data integrity are critical.
- Embed quality early by reviewing designs for testability and partnering with developers and product stakeholders.
- Own defect tracking, root-cause analysis, and release-readiness reporting—provide evidence on whether releases are safe to ship.
- Grow the QA function over time, including mentoring the dev team on QA practices.
Requirements
- Direct experience using AI to write code and test code, and build automated testing workflows.
- Significant experience as an SDET / QA Automation Engineer, or as a developer who owns test automation.
- Ability to work with realistic PHI in QA/staging environments while maintaining HIPAA-aligned handling.
Location / Eligibility
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be located in the continental U.S. (lower 48).
Nice-to-haves
- Not clearly specified in the excerpt provided.
