Software Engineer in Test

Role overview

Software Engineer in Test (SDET) at PDQ, supporting PDQ Connect, a cloud-hosted, agent-based platform. The role blends manual testing with automated test development and involves close collaboration with engineering, product, and support to ensure quality, reliability, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Participate in testing across the full software development life cycle
• Collaborate on refining product feature requirements
• Research, document, and report bugs
• Troubleshoot customer-facing issues (including potential customer follow-ups)
• Build test environments for testing
• Use scripting languages such as TypeScript, Python, and PowerShell to support testing
• Build and expand automated test suites using Playwright (and Pester)
• Perform and participate in code reviews
• Maintain strong knowledge of relevant tools/products
• Work in an Agile environment
• Improve testing culture, processes, and testing documentation
• Create/maintain testing docs and test cases
• Research and recommend testing tools and strategies
• Help integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines
• Mentor junior team members and help diagnose/fix fragile or failing tests

Requirements

• 3+ years experience in QA, SDET, or Test Automation
• Strong TypeScript and Playwright experience
• Experience testing modern web applications (UI + API)
• Comfortable working in CI environments (e.g., GitHub Actions)
• Ability to write clear, maintainable, purpose-driven test code and test cases
• Willingness to do hands-on manual testing when automation isn’t the right tool
• Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills

Nice to have

• General experience with performance/load testing
• Experience testing or working with Windows or macOS management tools
• Background in system administration or IT environments
