Software Engineer in Test

Role Overview

Beacon Hill is hiring for a Healthcare client in the Greater Chicago Area for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET). The role is 100% remote and you must be able to support Central Time (CST).

Responsibilities

Test Automation & Quality Assurance

• Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks for Unit, Integration, Regression, and End-to-End testing.
• Define and monitor test coverage across UI, API, and database layers.
• Build and maintain automated test scripts using:
  • Playwright, Cypress, Jest, BrowserStack, Cucumber
• Create robust test data generation strategies, including synthetic data for benefits scenarios.

Functional & Non-Functional Testing

• Execute and maintain functional, performance, load, and stress tests using:
  • JMeter, WebLoad, k6
• Perform security validation and edge-case scenario testing.
• Translate user stories/requirements into detailed test cases and scenarios.
• Perform hands-on manual testing to validate feature behavior and production readiness.
• Partner with Engineering and Product to review requirements early, improve testability, and mitigate regression risk.

CI/CD Integration & Observability

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using:
  • ADO Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins
• Support deployment validation including rollback verification and post-deployment checks.
• Monitor system health and test performance using:
  • CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Kibana

SDLC & Agile Practices

• Participate in Agile ceremonies and backlog grooming.
• Define test strategies early with requirements-to-test traceability.

Code Quality, Version Control, and Mentorship

• Use Git-based workflows and branching strategies.
• Review junior engineers’ automated test code and mentor best practices.
• Lead test planning/strategy for major features and cross-functional initiatives.

AI-Driven Quality Engineering

• Use Generative AI and prompt engineering to accelerate test case generation and improve QA productivity.
• Support testing for Generative AI applications, validating output compliance, reliability, and quality.

Requirements

• Strong software development skills with a quality-first mindset.
• Experience building test automation across UI, API, and backend services.
• Hands-on capability in test frameworks and CI/CD test integration.
• Ability to support CST time zone coverage.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with Generative AI testing and prompt-engineering approaches.
• Experience mentoring junior SDETs/QA engineers and leading test strategy for complex initiatives.
