About the role
Role Overview
Join PrizePicks as a Software Engineer III (Go) on the Board, Discovery & Live team. You’ll build and scale Go-based services that power core platform experiences including shopping, search, and live features.
Responsibilities
- Architecture & design: Participate in team-level architectural decisions; evaluate trade-offs and propose solutions.
- Own feature delivery end-to-end: From technical design through implementation—break complex work into well-scoped deliverables.
- Write high-quality Go: Produce idiomatic, performant, well-tested code.
- Proactively improve quality: Drive improvements in code quality, performance, reliability, and developer experience.
- Mentor junior engineers: Provide technical guidance to Software Engineers I/II via code reviews, pairing, and design feedback.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with Product, Design, and QA to align implementation with product goals.
- On-call & reliability: Participate in incident response and contribute to root-cause analysis and systemic fixes.
- Document & share knowledge: Capture decisions, architecture, and patterns to strengthen team understanding.
- Performance ownership: Own high-throughput endpoints, including database queries and caching strategies.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience building software (with meaningful time in Go services).
- Proven ability to deliver complex features that drive business outcomes.
- Ability to turn ambiguous requirements into concrete technical plans.
Technical Skills
- Advanced Go proficiency, including strong understanding of Go concurrency.
- Strong SQL skills (schema design, query optimization, performance at scale).
- Experience designing/building RESTful and/or gRPC APIs.
- Solid testing practices (unit, integration, end-to-end).
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
Nice-to-Haves
- Increasing ownership of incident response and systemic reliability improvements.
- Strong written communication and ability to provide/receive direct technical feedback.
