About the role

Role Overview

Software Engineer II on Stacklok’s core platform team. You will build and harden the systems behind Stacklok Enterprise—the production distribution of ToolHive, used to run and govern MCP servers across Kubernetes and private cloud environments.

This is a hands-on role with independence, delivering features and fixes to enable regulated organizations to run AI agents securely at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build and deliver features across Stacklok Enterprise platform services, including:
    • Runtime (isolating MCP servers)
    • Kubernetes operator (managing MCP servers)
    • Gateway
    • Registry
    • Identity layers
  • Fix bugs and harden platform systems for enterprise production use
  • Improve stability across customer deployments
  • Write testable, readable code with solid edge-case handling and error handling
  • Produce clear design documentation
  • Review pull requests and contribute to design discussions with technical leads, product, and engineers
  • Plan and sequence your own tasks and small epics; know when to escalate or pull in teammates
  • Contribute to the open-source ToolHive codebase and collaborate with community contributors

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Ramp quickly on the codebase and contribute independently
  • Ship first enterprise features/fixes within the first few months
  • Resolve production issues within SLA and keep customers unblocked
  • Support the open-source community (ToolHive), helping users get value
  • Strengthen the team through thoughtful PR reviews and cross-functional relationships
