About the role

Role Overview

Software Engineer II (Front End) contributing to modern, accessible, and responsive web applications for mission-critical federal digital services. You’ll work in a cross-functional Agile team with designers, product managers, backend engineers, and DevSecOps specialists.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain accessible, responsive web applications
Translate user stories, wireframes, and UX designs into scalable, reusable front-end components
Ensure compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
Integrate RESTful APIs and backend services to build dynamic, data-driven UI
Participate in the full SDLC: planning, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
Develop and maintain automated tests to improve reliability and quality
Optimize performance, responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility
Engage in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, retrospectives)
Contribute to CI/CD workflows, code reviews, and continuous improvement
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues (root-cause analysis and fixes)

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of professional software engineering with a front-end focus
Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React
Experience building reusable, component-based UIs with React Hooks and state management libraries
Strong knowledge of semantic HTML5, CSS3, responsive/mobile-first design
Experience implementing Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
Hands-on RESTful API integration
Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
Experience writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests with modern testing frameworks
Knowledge of Agile methodologies and participating in Agile ceremonies
U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain DHS Public Trust clearance
Residency in the U.S. for at least 3 of the prior 5 years

Nice-to-Haves

Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and accessibility-focused front-end engineering
Experience working in CI/CD-heavy environments supporting production systems
