About the role

Role Overview

Software Engineer II (Front End) contributing to modern, accessible, and responsive web applications for mission-critical federal digital services. You’ll work in a cross-functional Agile team with designers, product managers, backend engineers, and DevSecOps specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain accessible, responsive web applications
  • Translate user stories, wireframes, and UX designs into scalable, reusable front-end components
  • Ensure compliance with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
  • Integrate RESTful APIs and backend services to build dynamic, data-driven UI
  • Participate in the full SDLC: planning, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Develop and maintain automated tests to improve reliability and quality
  • Optimize performance, responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility
  • Engage in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog refinement, standups, retrospectives)
  • Contribute to CI/CD workflows, code reviews, and continuous improvement
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues (root-cause analysis and fixes)

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering with a front-end focus
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React
  • Experience building reusable, component-based UIs with React Hooks and state management libraries
  • Strong knowledge of semantic HTML5, CSS3, responsive/mobile-first design
  • Experience implementing Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
  • Hands-on RESTful API integration
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests with modern testing frameworks
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and participating in Agile ceremonies
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain DHS Public Trust clearance
  • Residency in the U.S. for at least 3 of the prior 5 years

Nice-to-Haves

  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and accessibility-focused front-end engineering
  • Experience working in CI/CD-heavy environments supporting production systems
