About the role

Role: Software Engineer II

You’ll be a key member of the Engineering team, designing, building, and maintaining software that powers Convo’s real-time communication platform. The role involves delivering production-ready code in a regulated, always-on environment while operating effectively in a codebase with both legacy components and modern microservices.

Responsibilities

System architecture & technical alignment

Design and implement services and features within established architectural patterns
Contribute written technical designs and implementation plans
Review approaches/trade-offs to maintain consistency, scalability, and reliability
Build with security, privacy, and compliance considerations in mind

Software development & delivery

Develop, test, and deploy production-ready code
Build and maintain automated tests to balance delivery speed and system stability
Refactor or implement pragmatic fixes with clear documentation of decisions and trade-offs
Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering standards and best practices

Operational ownership & risk management

Proactively identify technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and system weaknesses
Participate in production support and incident response
Support monitoring/logging/alerting and contribute to root-cause analysis and follow-up improvements

Documentation & communication

Create and maintain clear technical documentation (architectural context, implementation notes, code-level docs)
Use written communication to keep work visible and support collaboration in a distributed environment

Cross-functional collaboration

Partner with Product and Operations to understand requirements and deliver reliable solutions
Collaborate with distributed team members using asynchronous tools

Requirements

Strong written communication
Operational ownership and sound technical judgment
Comfort navigating ambiguity and making trade-offs between delivery speed and system stability
Experience working in systems that include both legacy components and modern microservices

Nice-to-haves

Prior experience in regulated environments and always-on production systems
Experience contributing to incident response, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements

Growth

Clear growth path toward Senior Software Engineer as scope and system-level ownership expand.
