Software Engineer II - Backend Java (Remote)

Role Overview

Software Engineer II, Backend Java on the Customer Purchase Service (CPS) team. You will manage and develop platform capabilities that unify purchase information across online and store channels for Home Depot B2B customers, enabling search and analysis of transaction history.

Responsibilities

• Delivery & Execution (60%)
  • Collaborate and pair with UX, engineering, and product management to deliver secure, reliable, scalable backend solutions.
  • Ensure quality and change control standards are followed; keep user stories developer-ready, clear, and testable.
  • Write custom code/scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases.
  • Perform destructive testing to validate production resiliency.
  • Perform project configuration/modification using Home Depot’s approved methodology.
  • Configure COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) solutions to match evolving business needs.
  • Build dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to proactively capture and address issues.
• Learning (20%)

  • Work in agile processes; help improve how the team succeeds.

Requirements

• Must be 18+ and legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–3 years relevant experience.
• Experience writing SQL queries on relational databases.
• Backend experience with Java Spring Boot.
• Cloud experience, preferably GCP.
• Search tools experience: ElasticSearch, MongoDB Atlas, or Apache Solr.
