Software Engineer Identity & Access

Role Overview

Patreon is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Identity & Access) to support its mission by building and maintaining core identity and authentication systems. You’ll work in the Identity and Access team within Patreon’s Risk Engineering organization, collaborating with security, trust & safety, anti-fraud, legal, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Write backend and full-stack code for Patreon’s core product.
• Build and deploy user-facing security features, including:
  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA) flows
  • ID verification systems
  • Account takeover detection and prevention
• Engage stakeholders to define requirements and balance security, privacy, and compliance needs.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, designers, and other engineers to ship high-quality features.
• Improve security and usability for creators and their fans by championing innovative solutions.
• Drive team growth through process improvements, mentorship, and expanding team capabilities.

Requirements

• 2–3+ years of software development experience.
• Experience with Python (or a similar language).
• Familiarity with security and privacy concerns related to identity data and authentication flows.
• Comfort with data storage, data modeling, performance, and reliability trade-offs.
• Experience building consumer-facing features where user experience and emotional feel matter.
• Ability to iterate quickly: ship MVPs, test hypotheses, and evolve based on feedback.
• Strong judgment in handling messy real-world problems with practical trade-offs.
• Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
