Software Engineer

Role overview

You’ll build software systems that power Foundational’s AI-native manufacturing platform—spanning greenfield design through deployment and real operations in a factory environment.

Responsibilities / outcomes

• Design and ship core backend services and APIs that connect factory equipment, robotics, and operational systems into a unified platform.
• Own at least one greenfield system end to end (architecture decisions through deployment) with measurable operational impact.
• Build data pipelines for real-time operations visibility into factory performance (turn raw machine data into actionable signals).
• Develop working fluency with the factory environment, understanding physical constraints and designing software that holds up under them.

Requirements

• 3–7+ years of professional software development, with production systems as the primary proving ground.
• Strong command of at least one modern language: Python, Go, C++, or Java (and comfort across a polyglot stack).
• Solid foundation in object-oriented programming and multi-layer system architecture.
• Experience designing/operating backend services, APIs, or data pipelines in production.
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and data storage technologies.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving across software and system boundaries.
• Interest in (or experience with) manufacturing, robotics, or industrial environments.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot), especially thoughtful use.
